A couple of times we spotted blood in Grayson's stool, so we took her in to see the doctor. The doctor thought she might have milk allergies (she does spit up a lot as well) but he said he needed to send off a sample of her stool to make sure nothing else was going on. It was a long 5 days wondering if everything was going to be okay. We finally got word that she is completely healthy, just allergic to milk proteins. She is on a stricly soy based formula. I believe she will grow out of this but we will find out more next week. I am so glad that our little girl is okay!!
Now we are on this...
I hope she does grow out of it! Just remember, it takes time and patience. Connor had severe reflux that was making him wheeze and the blood in the stool. I did the milk- free diet while I continued to breastfeed for a few months until we switched to the Similac Alimentum formula. He was a whole new baby! As expensive as it is, it does make a difference. We reintroduced milk after 9 months with yogurt, string cheese, etc. and he did great until 11 months hit and he was throwing up again. Sigh. We are back to a milk-free diet and as we are almost at a year, he will be drinking soy milk for a while as I come up with creative things for him to eat! If you need any resources when it comes time for solids, feel free to e-mail me!
ReplyDeleteMy daughter was the same way. After we spotted blood a few times (and sent her diapers to be tested)...she was on a milk free diet. She outgrew it around 15 months and has had no more issues!
ReplyDeleteIt's amazing how many babies have a milk allergy. Glad to hear she is fine :)
